Apparently, the Gordo Green Wave were ready to play when they got off the bus. The Green Wave used a big first half to beat Oakman 47-23.
Gordo quarterback Essie Davis threw touchdown strikes of 41 and 26 yards in the first five minutes of the game as the Green Wave exploded in the first quarter. Davis then added touchdown runs of 5 and 15 yards to post a 27-0 halftime lead over the Wildcats.
The Green Wave added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to push the lead to 40-0. Malcolm Hogue scored for Oakman on a five yard touchdown run to make the score 40-7. Gordo responded again by returning the kickoff for a touchdown to push the score to 47-7.
Hogue added a one-yard score later in the quarter and Jon Avery hit Nick Moody on an 36-yard touchdown. For Oakman, Hogue rushed 16 times for 82 and two score. Avery completed 8 of 16 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown. Moody hauled in four passes for 77 yards.
Gordo earned its #3 ranking and sent word that they are a team to be reckoned with as playoff time approaches.
