Assistant Coach

Bret Henderson

Cherokee County

As Defensive Coordinator, Coach Bret Henderson helped guide Cherokee County to a 13-2 record, capturing the Class 4A Region 6 title. The defense was a cornerstone of the team’s success, allowing just 10 points per game during the regular season—a top-five ranking in Class 4A. This remarkable consistency exemplified the Warriors' commitment to hard work, preparation, and execution under Coach Henderson’s leadership.

A graduate of Alexandria where he lettered four years in both football and baseball. Coach Henderson then went on to play baseball at Gadsden State before getting his degree at Jacksonville State. He spent his first three seasons in coaching at Ohatchee High School. He earned a reputation for hard work and Ohatchee made three straight playoff appearances.

He arrived at Cherokee County in 2021 as defensive coordinator for Head Coach Jacob Kelley. Since that time, Cherokee County has posted 12 shutouts and has been an integral part of the Warriors playing in three straight 4A State championship games and accumulating 38 wins. Known for his ability to get the best out of each athlete, Coach Henderson has developed several players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Coach Henderson's influence extends far beyond the game itself. Senior linebacker Konnor Baswell shared, "Coach Henderson's dedication and love for his players is unmatched. He wants nothing more than for you to reach your highest potential and have fun doing it."
