Head Coach

Juan Johnson

Baker

Patience is a virtue they say and Coach Juan Johnson has certainly exhibited that in his coaching career. As the highly successful offensive coordinator at Hewitt Trussville, he waited for several seasons for the right head coaching fit. He found it in 2024 with the Baker Hornets.

In his inaugural season, Coach Johnson led the Hornets to a remarkable 9-3 record, matching the school's highest win total. Under his guidance, Baker's defense became the stingiest in school history, allowing just 14.3 points per game. This formidable defense was instrumental in securing the team's first playoff victory in four decades—a thrilling 17-14 win over Hewitt-Trussville, Coach Johnson's former team.

Offensively, the Hornets averaged over 26 points per game, showcasing an up tempo offense. Coach Johnson instilled both discipline and confidence in the Hornets, who played hard and very consistently throughout the season.

Offensive Coordinator Tucker Brown remarked, "Juan brings an energy every day that makes the players want to run through a wall for their team. One of the best qualities he has as a head coach is that he can relate to the players and be the 'cool' coach while still holding everyone accountable to incredibly high standards and quality of football."

Beyond the on-field achievements, Coach Johnson's impact was felt throughout the Baker community. Implementing a character education program, he emphasized personal growth alongside athletic development. Baker also had the highest home game attendance in school history, reflecting the renewed spirit and support for the Hornets.
