Head Coach

Kirk Johnson

Montgomery Catholic

Under Coach Kirk Johnson's leadership, the Montgomery Catholic Knights delivered an outstanding 2024 season, finishing with a perfect 14-0 record. The Knights dominated their opponents, averaging 41.6 points per game on offense while allowing only 6.6 points per game on defense. Their defensive consistency was unmatched, as no opponent managed to score more than 14 points all season. The Knights' season culminated in a thrilling 17-14 victory over Moody in the 5A state championship game in Birmingham, marking the program's second consecutive state title.

Coach Johnson’s journey at Montgomery Catholic began in 2014 when he joined as defensive coordinator. During his six years in that role, he built a reputation for crafting formidable defenses, a hallmark that has carried into his tenure as head coach. Since taking over in 2021, Johnson has led the Knights to a stellar 55-2 record. His leadership and dedication have elevated the program to new heights, including back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024.

Players and colleagues speak highly of Johnson's impact. Senior player TJ Dottery reflected, “Coach J has been nothing but a blessing. Everything he's done for Catholic and the players like me has been done with pure intentions. He always puts others before himself and it's truly genuine.”

Former assistant coach Jake Campbell highlighted Johnson’s leadership, saying, “Kirk is one of the most solid and consistent men I know when it comes to setting and upholding high standards.”
