Assistant Coach
Sean Talsma
Hewitt-Trussville
The Hewitt Trussville Huskies have become known for their fast paced, aggressive offense. But in 2024, the Husky defense took center stage under the leadership of defensive coordinator Sean Talsma.
Coach Sean Talsma orchestrated an exceptional defensive season for the Huskies, and the stats tell the story. The Huskies allowed just 9.5 points per game—their best since 1992. His defense ranked first in 7A, forcing 21 turnovers and tallying 25 sacks. Over eleven games, they allowed only 104 points, with several late touchdowns scored against reserve players. No opponent scored more than 17 points in any contest in 2024.
Coach Talsma’s coaching career started at Marcellus High in Michigan before he spent five years coaching in Georgia. He has worked the last 20 years in Alabama at Pelham and Clay-Chalkville before coming to Hewitt-Trussville.
Beyond statistics, Coach Talsma’s influence resonates deeply with players and staff. Former player Malachi Moore shared, “Coach Talsma has left an everlasting impact on my life on and off the field. He taught me how to push through tough times and what it means to be a man.”
Head Coach Josh Floyd praised his attention to detail, saying, “Coach Talsma ensures our players are mentally and physically prepared each week.”
Ethan Carroll added, “Hewitt’s fast-paced offense creates unique challenges for the defense, yet Coach Talsma excels. His determination and work ethic make him a phenomenal role model.”
His leadership made the 2024 season a historic one for the Huskies.
