Head Coach
Tim Bowens
Brooks
Coach Tim Bowens has traveled a unique road through football. An All State football and basketball star at Brooks High School, he became a starting wide receiver for Alabama in the late 90's. After graduation, he worked as assistant coach at several colleges before becoming the head coach at Clark Atlanta University in 2019.
Coach Bowens returned to Brooks in 2022 as head coach. Just after being hired, Tim was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After surgery and treatments, his cancer was declared undetectable. Then in late 2023, his cancer returned. His treatments took a toll on him, and he was forced to take a leave of absence. After three months, he was able to "ring the bell" and returned to the Brooks football team with the start of fall practice.
Under his leadership, the Lions achieved a commendable 10-3 record, advancing to the playoff quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. The team's offense averaged 35.7 points per game, while the defense made significant strides, allowing half the points conceded in the previous season.
The "Ring the Bell" chant became a unifying rallying cry for the team, symbolizing both Coach Bowens' personal victories over cancer and the team's determination on the field. Fans echoed this sentiment, enthusiastically shaking cowbells in support during games. This spirit was evident in their narrow 21-14 loss to Cherokee County in the quarterfinals, where the Lions played hard until the final whistle.
His unwavering commitment to the team, despite personal health battles, has inspired both players and fans at Brooks High School.
