Alabama High School Football News- August 16, 2021

1) Chris Smelley has resigned as the head coach at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa. In a press release, Smelley said he was leaving to take some personal time with his family that he could not do while maintaining a full time coaching position. DC Cody Martin has taken over as interim coach.



2) Tim Stowers, former head coach at Georgia Southern has taken a job as offensive line coach at Minor High School.


3) Reminder to coaches- if you did not take the rules test in Montgomery in July you have until noon on August 19th to complete the test on Dragonfly.


4) Coaches who have players who are really strong in the classroom as well as the field, can nominate them for the HS Football Academic All American watch List for the 2021 season. Go to aaa@highschoolfootballamerica.com to make the nominations.


5) The ALFCA mail out will be coming to your schools soon with membership information. The association has set a goal of 2,000 members by the time we complete the convention in January. Please assign someone on the staff to take care of the membership form and join all of the coaches on the staff to the ALFCA. You will be able to join through Dragonfly- more information coming on that soon.


6) Please check alfca.com this fall for your high school football scores and all of the latest news on high school football in the state of Alabama.


7) Thursday night at 7:00 PM in Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, defending 4A state champion Handley and 5A Guntersville will go at it in the 2021 AHSAA Kickoff Classic. Dothan and Bob Jones will tee it up Friday night at 7 in Round 2 of the classic.
