Four of the state’s finest assistant coaches turned in their assistant hats to become the latest head coaching hires in the state on Thursday.
Hoover offensive line coach Chad Eads, long known as one of the finest offensive line coaches around, is the new head coach at Gardendale. He replaces Matt Plunkett who took his trade to Cullman.
Hoover assistant head coach Adrian Abrams has been named the new head coach at Minor High School in Birmingham. Abrams replaces Curtis Graves. Minor went 4-6 last season. “It is a place you can have success,” Abrams told al.com.
John Clements is the new coach at Corner, replacing Zac Willis. Clements comes from Clay Chalkville, where he was the offensive coordinator. It will be his first head coaching job. “It’s a town just like where I grew up,” he said on al.com. “It’s a tight-knight community. It makes you feel like you’re going home.”
Mary Montgomery promoted assistant Stan Cain to head coach. This is far from Cain’s first job. He has been on the staff at MGM for one year. However, he was a successful head coach in Mississippi for 19 seasons. Cain replaces Chris Wilson who resigned at the end of the season.
“I’m very proud to be able to lead this program,” McCain said. “I think since I’ve been here a year, maybe I can provide a little sense of stability they haven’t had for a while. The guys right now are working hard. We need to get some more guys from the student body out there with us and keep the kids from middle school in Semmes. We are working on fixing that.”
