Pell City coach Keith Etheredge was officially named Friday as the new head football coach at T.R. Miller High School. Etheredge replaces Andrew Thomas who resigned last month.
Etheredge comes to Miller after two years at Pell City where his teams went 12-10 and made two playoff appearances. He had great success at Leeds, his alma mater, when he served as head coach for ten seasons. His 107-34 record included state championships in 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2015.
Etheredge told AL.com Thursday that he wasn’t necessarily looking for a new job this off season, but “when a place like T.R. Miller calls you have to listen.” He hopes to return the Class 3A Tigers to the glory years they had in the 27-year tenure of Jamie Riggs, who led the school to four state titles before retiring in 2015.
“It’s a good move for my family and I,” Etheredge said. “T.R. Miller is a place with a lot of tradition. They’ve had a lot of great players. We want to get it back to the level where it expects to be year in and year out.”
“He just fit so many of the boxes we were looking to check,” T.R. Miller principal Ron Snell said. “His record is second to none. Also, when you call around and ask about him, everyone makes it clear how much he invests his heart and soul into the kids and the community, and that is what is expected in Brewton and at T.R. Miller. The people here are very supportive, but they are also demanding. They demand excellence. Keith is a great fit for T.R. Miller and I think just as importantly T.R. Miller is a great fit for Keith and his family.”
Etheredge is expected to begin his new post in mid January.
