Faith Academy Coach Lance Lawley has stepped down from his position as head football coach because of physical reasons. Lawley, who had taken over the Faith program last year, felt he was forced to resign because of the constant pain in his right knee and left ankle.
“I’m not looking for another job, I don’t have another job, this is not what I wanted to do,” said Lawley, 41 on Al.com . “But if I ever want to try to do this again, I need to try to get this pain fixed. Faith Academy is really an awesome place. The administration is fantastic, the kids are working hard. The program is headed in the right direction. Nothing negative has happened. I tried not to walk away, but I just did not feel like I could get healthy and coach at the same time.”
Faith Athletic Director Woodie Head said on Al.com that the school hated to see Coach Lawley leave. “We tried to explore some options that might help, whether it be him working out of a cart or whatever, but he just feels the pain is too extreme at this point and he wants to get some help. We certainly respect that and appreciate that.”
Lawley was in the process of rebuilding the Faith football program. The Rams have not had a winning season since leaving the AISA for the AHSAA nine years ago. Head said that the Rams would promote defensive coordinator Jeff Estes to interim head coach and he would remain at that position through the 2017 season.
