Former Alabama defensive back Sam Shade, who played on the Tides’s 1992 national championship team, has been named the new head football coach at Pinson Valley High School.
Shade comes to the Indians from the Cleveland Browns, where he has spent the last 18 months as a special teams assistant coach. Shade had previously served a year with Briarwood Christian and then six seasons on Pat Sullivan’s staff at Samford University in Birmingham.
Shade played high school football at Wenonah. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL draft and played eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Redskins.
Shade replaces Patrick Nix, who resigned last month to become the new coach at Central of Phenix City.
Pinson Valley will be Shade’s first head coaching job.
